Soooo Sleepy.....

Carson posing for mom at 4 weeks old
J.P. sleeping with his new train book

So here's the scoop on the sleep situation at our house. J.P. is doing great and hasn't deviated from his nap/nighttime sleep schedule. Although he got a new train book at Choo Choo Bob's this weekend and now sleeps with it. Carson is only waking once during the night (usually around 2:30-4:00am), but he doesn't want to go back to sleep after his feeding. He just stares at me like he's waiting for the party to begin. I end up being awake for 2 hours sometimes and then only go back to sleep for an hour before J.P. wakes up for the day. During the day Carson naps a lot, but always has to be in our arms or in the swing. Ugh! My arms are getting sore from holding him but at this point I'd rather have him sleeping quietly then screaming in his bed and having to tend to him constantly. Letting your kids "cry it out" is so hard and I know that's what we have to do to make him get used to falling asleep on his own. But right now we are still trying to figure out how to get a decent amount of sleep and get all the usual stuff done around our house, so we end up holding him a lot. He takes a pacifier but cannot keep it in his mouth to save his soul.

We went to the zoo yesterday with the neighbor girls (twins that are J.P.'s age). It was my first big, public venture with both the boys. J.P. did really well since he basically has the zoo memorized by now and knows where to stop. But he is still very fast and I had to run with the stroller a few times to catch up to him. Carson slept almost the whole time but fell apart a little on the way home. Riding in the car now gives me a little anxiety since J.P. still finds ways to push my buttons and I can't reach Carson from the front seat. But we stopped for french fries and that helped the situation. Every time I think I am getting good at conquering the task of managing two young children, they find ways to remind me that it is just a hard job and won't come easy every day.

J.P. has been in a great mood and his behavior has been tolerable lately. I feel like we are on the upswing from when the baby was first born. He loves singing the theme song from CARS, "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts. We are also having a little success in the potty training department. He is acting interested again and tells us when he has to go (sometimes).
